Student Location Determinations for Required Reporting and Disclosures

I. Scope

This policy applies to all students, deans, and the Office of the Provost at George Mason University.

II. Policy Statement

Students must select their physical location at the time of registration for each term.

For out-of-state learning placements, deans’ offices shall collect the state of placement and the major of the student and shall report this information in a timely manner to the Office of the Provost when requested.

The Office of the Provost shall ensure compliance with federal regulations regarding state authorization, and with policies of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). When required, the Office shall coordinate reporting to NC-SARA.

III. Compliance

Failure to comply with the requirements of this policy and related procedures may result in penalties levied against the University by the Department of Education, loss of ability to participate in Federal Financial Aid programs, or the revocation of the University’s membership in NC-SARA.

This policy will become effective upon the date of approval by the Provost and Executive Vice President.

VI. Timetable for Review

This policy, and any related procedures, shall be reviewed every three years or more frequently as necessary following changes to federal regulations or NC-SARA policy.
